Town Meeting at Chocksett School
We need all Sterling residents… husbands,
wives, aunts, uncles and neighbors to PLEASE come and vote to
help support a purchase by the town for the play structure for 5-12 year-old
children, costing approximately $52,000 (funds are being requested through
the existing Capital Fund, not a tax increase.)
To be placed at Sterling Greenery Community
Park.
It is article #19 out of 65 so it is
very important that everyone is on time and arrives before 7p.m. We predict
it will be crowded.
We are also providing “child services” by
responsible adults and trained sitters so everyone can attend.

PARKAPALOOZA 2009 has been CANCELLED due to inclement weather!!!!
No new date has been set.
Due to the wet weather over the past several
days and Sunday's forecast, the conditions at the park would be too wet for
most activities.
Please keep visiting this space for information
on new fun events - this rain can't last!

THANK YOU!
The park looks fantastic! Thank you so much to the many volunteers that
helped on Saturday, May 9th! We had a crew of 7 from St. John's "Service
Day", a Pergola build crew of "dads" led by Patrick McCarty of
McCarty Companies and many
SPARC members and volunteers. In total there were about 20 adults and a
dozen children!. Both Pergola's were erected. We completed 90% of the
weeding and mulching, Jeff Lucht did the mowing and edging. Together we made
the park sparkle!
Project Update:
Phase I of the
project was completed last fall and we are hoping to complete Phase II this
coming spring. Phase I included the pond and waterfall, fencing, some play
equipment for 2-5 year-olds, safety surfacing, the walking path and some
brick pavers. Phase II is in progress and includes the pergola shade structure,
remaining play equipment for 2-5 year-olds, play equipment for 5-12
year-olds, more safety surfacing, more benches, picnic tables and more brick
pavers.
The goal for
Sterling Greenery Community Park is to provide a gathering space
for the entire Sterling community. There is currently no place in town
where people of all ages can gather to socialize, enjoy the outdoors,
and exercise during the day free of charge. The pavilion, benches,
picnic tables, walking paths, landscaping, and science/nature theme
elements are all intended to make the Park inviting to both adults and
children.

Muddy Pond Community Park will offer children and adults the following:
-
Playground featuring state-of-the-art equipment including: a
net structure, rubber bridges, a playhouse, swings, and much more. The
playground will be wheelchair accessible and enclosed by a gated fence.
Separate areas within the playground will be designated for kids under
five and for kids age five to 12.
-
Wheelchair- and stroller-accessible walking paths that circle
the pond and connect with the fields (soccer, baseball, and football)
and the basketball courts behind the Chocksett School.
-
Science and nature themes will be used to unify the various
features of Muddy Pond Community Park and make it truly unique. The
science/nature theme will be incorporated into the types of playground
equipment (e.g. frog to climb on, mushrooms to jump over, and
equipment demonstrating the principals of physics) and other aspects of
the Park to engage kids and adults.
-
Landscaping to help delineate the play areas, provide
protection from the sun, and enhance the natural beauty of the area,
which includes a pond, forest, and fields. Low-maintenance native plants
will be used to reduce water dependency and because they are well suited
to native plant and animal species on the site.
-
Pavilion for group gatherings and protection from the sun.
-
Benches and picnic tables for relaxing and eating.
-
Parking area that is easily accessible from main road with
plenty of space as well as bike racks.
